A few months ago rumors started popping up (opens in new tab) that Batman’s sidekick and constant chum Robin would make an appearance in Arkham City. Though we had fun speculating on it (opens in new tab),the rumors slowly faded away as new info was revealed on Riddler, Penguin and a playable Catwoman. Now, thanks to what seems to be a big mistake on the part of retailer Best Buy, it looks like Robin is almost certainly going to appear in the Bat-sequel, and be playable too.
Above: Thanks ArkhamCity.co.uk (opens in new tab)for catching this
Posted as part of the major US retailer’s online advertising, apparently pre-ordering the game at Best Buy grants you access to two “Challenge Maps” where you can play as Robin. The situation sounds similar to the PS3-exclusive Joker maps for Arkham Asylum, so perhaps the Boy Wonder won’t be playable in the main story, but it’d be strange if the team at Rocksteady designed Robin and not had him make an appearance in the campaign. Also, it’s unclear if this pre-order offer is exclusive to Best Buy, or if most major retailers will give this to those who buy the game early.
With a leak like this, we can expect one of two things to happen now. Either Best Buy removes the offer from their site and this isn’t announced until Comic Con at the earliest, or the publisher will realize the secret’s out and just confirm it in the next couple of days. Regardless, stay tuned to GamesRadar, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!
