Thor was king of the box office last weekend, and his reign carried on through to this weekend as well.
Fending off competition from new-openers Priest and Bridemaids , the Asgardian stuck to the number one spot with a further taking of $34.5m – and a total earning of $119m so far Stateside.
Bridesmaids wasn’t far behind, though, stepping on Thor ’s train in second with a more-than-decent opening of $22.4m. Meanwhile, Fast Five continued to be a big earner in third with $19.5m, and Priest bowed in fourth with a pretty low-sounding $14.5m.
Rounding out the top five was Rio , which took a further $8m. In sixth came Jumping The Broom ($7.3m), closely followed by the week’s other matrimony-themed movie Something Borrowed in seventh ($7m).
Water For Elephants continued to do steady business in eighth ($4.1m), while Madea’s Big Happy Family stuck around in ninth ($2.2m). Soul Surfer closed out the top ten with just $1.8m.
Next week, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sets sails for cinema screens. Thor ’s rule at the box office could be about to abruptly end…
