Mass Effect 3 will include same-sex male relationships

BioWare has confirmed it will be including same-sex romantic options for both male and female Commander Shepards in Mass Effect 3, allowing players of all sexual orientations to experience the thrill of awkward puppet love for the first time in the series.

Until now, the only way to play as a gay character aboard the Normandy has been to assume the role of a female Commander Shepard or topretend Liara is a dude. This weekend,a tweet (opens in new tab)from Mass Effect 3’s executive producer Casey Hudson announced BioWare is bucking its tradition with the trilogy capper, writing, “Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m%26amp;f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.”

Asked why BioWare decided to adapt its romantic strategy after all this time,Hudson said (opens in new tab), “Our our plans evolve over time, and are guided by your feedback.”

The tweet follows Friday’sreveal to PC Gamer (opens in new tab)that Mass Effect 3 wouldn’t introduce new potential mates, but instead give players the opportunity to continue previous flings or, depending how amorous one was beforehand, play out love triangles between competing partners.

It will be interesting to see how BioWare handles male characters’ relationships, especiallyforthosethose who may have spent the first two games bedding female companions. Then again,as long as those damn Reapers are kept in check, no one should have a problem with what or whom Shepard chooses to make sweet, sweet space love with.
