Hugh Jackman up for role in Tom Hoopers Les Misrables

Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to take the lead in Tom Hooper’s big screen version of musical Les Misérables.

Currently a stage production in London’s West End, Les Misérables is based on the novel by Victor Hugo, which follows characters living in 19th century France who are seeking redemption.

William Nicholson has written the movie’s script, and the film will be Hooper’s first production after winning the Best Director Oscar for The King’s Speech.

Jackman is reportedly interested in the role of Jean Valjean, who’s branded an outcast when he’s freed from prison and attempts to fix his sorry state of affairs.

It sounds like the perfect role for Jackman, who has a proven ability to balance light and dark, and has starred in numerous musical productions – including The Boy From Oz .
