Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn second trailer released

Square Enix is taking another stab at Final Fantasy XIV, which launched in 2010 to widespread disappointment (opens in new tab). At the time, many reviewers (including our own) noted that the game had a ton of potential that just wasn’t capitalized on. Hoping to retool the formula, Square Enix is doing a full revamp of the title in an attempt to win back the hearts of gamers.

There’s something about MMO trailers that just sends a chill up our spines. Some place deep inside, at the base of our brain stems gets all stimulated when epic female narrators start talking about “heroes answering the call” and “realms” and “crystals.” We’re powerless to resist.

Regardless of that weird propensity toward hammy high fantasy, we’re looking forward to giving FFXIV 2.0 a spin. The original had plenty to get excited about, and we’re hoping that with an extra two years to think this over Square Enix will be able to nail it.
