And with the effusively positive reviews it’s getting so far, we suspect there may be one

Despite an alleged embargo (why are we the only mag that ever seems to play ball with these things?) glowing reviews of X-Men: First Class are cropping up all over the internet (try here (opens in new tab) , here (opens in new tab) and here (opens in new tab) , though beware spoilers). So it’s great to hear director Matthew Vaughn already talking in interviews about returning for a sequel.

Speaking to HitFix.com (opens in new tab) , he says he’s certainly up for helming First Class 2 ( Second Class ?): “Yeah, definitely. I really loved working with them, and with Michael [Fassbender] and James [McAvoy], the chemistry was really lovely. I’ve got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned. And we could go from there, and I’ve got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in. I don’t want to tempt fate, though. If the film’s a hit, of course I’d be interested. I really enjoyed making it.”

To Movieweb.com (opens in new tab) , he also teases about a new mutant character who could show up in the sequel: “We will only have one more new character. I won’t say who he… I won’t say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in. Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can’t, mate!”

So, who do you reckon that could be? Maggot? (We jest, clearly…)
