Fargo (1996)
Representative Of The Film? The Coen Brothers’ film is a murder mystery marvel that cleverly pairs a police procedural with a homespun heroine whom everybody underestimates. The poster’s a warm send-up of that twee nod-wink.
Coolest Detail: It’s a scene from the film re-created in cross-stitching – low-tech cool.
The Lion King (1994)
Representative Of The Film? Beautiful, atmospheric and eye-catching all in one go, just like Disney’s emotional big-hitter.
Coolest Detail: It manages to be magical with little more than a bit of sun and stars, which is no mean feat.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
Representative Of The Film? Much of T2 is about the T-800 being the coolest cyborg ever to grace the big screen (alright, T-1000 aside), and this poster lets us know that beautifully.
Coolest Detail: Arnie of course – and in particular that glowing red eye.
American Beauty (1999)
Representative Of The Film? Kevin Spacey’s lustful obsession with Mena Suvari is what kick-starts this story, and leads to that most infamous of dream sequences.
Coolest Detail: It’s suggestive and sexy without being obscene.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Representative Of The Film? Minimalistic, relatively bleak, but with undeniable style. Yep, that’s Reservoir Dogs alright.
Coolest Detail: Harvey Keitel simply rocks those shades.
Being John Malkovich (1999)
Representative Of The Film? Malkovich is all about the titular John, so yup. Also, there’s a bit where everybody literally looks just like John Malkovich, which makes it doubly fitting.
Coolest Detail: It’s a sea of Malkoviches!
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
Representative Of The Film? In short: no. This is a clever, artistic bit of shivery foreboding. The real film is clunky and as subtle as a lightsabre in the eye.
Coolest Detail: That ominous shadow.
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (1998)
Representative Of The Film? Terry Gilliam’s substance-sozzled drama takes mind-bending to an extreme, making this distorted image of Jonny Depp a perfect embodiment of the film’s trippy content.
Coolest Detail: Those bug-eyed glasses, which effortlessly convey a sense of total highdom.
Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Representative Of The Film? It turns the film’s plot – two salesmen discover they could face the chop in a week if they don’t pull their weight – into an emotive, stomach-churning image. Perfect.
Coolest Detail: It almost looks like he’s giving Kevin Spacey the finger…
Jurassic Park (1993)
Representative Of The Film? It’s the same emblem that’s used in the movie, and a fitting reflection of the film’s theme park ride thrills.
Coolest Detail: Those bushes under the title logo – could something nasty be lurking in there?
